If you get the error “GnomeDesktop-3.0 GIR file not found” after installing the Desktop Icons NG (DING) Gnome extension on Debian or Ubuntu, the fix is straightforward.
Just install this missing package:
sudo apt install gir1.2-gnomedesktop-3.0This was tested on Ubuntu 25.10 Gnome Shell 49.0
