How to set AC Loss Control for Minisforum UM890 Pro

Power lines on a green grass hill

If you use your Minisforum UM890 Pro as a home server, media box, or remote workstation, you probably want it to switch itself back on after a power cut, or after you toggle a smart plug. That behavior is controlled by a BIOS setting called AC Loss Control, and enabling it takes about a minute.

Before you start

Minisforum advises you to use a wired keyboard for this because wireless and Bluetooth keyboards often aren’t initialized early enough in the boot process, so key presses in the BIOS may not register. Well, I used a Logitech G915X with Lightspeed connection, and it worked fine.

Step 1: Enter the BIOS

Power on the machine and repeatedly tap the Del key as soon as it starts booting. You’ll land in the AMD setup utility.

Step 2: Find AC Loss Control

Navigate to the Advanced tab, then open AMD PBS. Inside you’ll find the AC Loss Control option.

Step 3: Choose the behavior you want

AC Loss Control determines what the machine does when mains power is restored after being lost:

  • Always Off
The machine stays off until you press the power button (the factory default).
  • Always On
The machine boots automatically as soon as power returns. This is the setting you want for headless or always-on use.
  • Last State
The machine returns to whatever state it was in when power was lost: on if it was on, off if it was off.

Select Always On (or Last State, if you prefer) and confirm.

Step 4: Save and exit

Press F10 (or go to the Save & Exit menu), confirm with Yes, and the machine will reboot with the new setting active.

Quick test

Pull the power cord (or switch off the plug), wait a few seconds, and plug it back in. With Always On set, the UM890 Pro should boot on its own, no power button needed.

That’s all there is to it.
